Why now is the time to travel in South America

For many years, individuals have decided against travel in South America. This has been mainly due to the fear of the unknown and fear for their safety. South America has been overshadowed as a travel destination with many choosing to travel to Asia, America or Australia over the continent.

South America is home to some of the most diverse countries in the world – Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, French Guiana, Ecuador and Peru. These countries are rich in culture, heritage, history and landmarks.

Brazil

Brazil is the world’s most biodiverse country. Home of the Amazon rainforest, beaches, mountains and beautiful cities. Rio and Sao Paulo are picturesque coastal cities, filled with culture, lively events and famous landmarks.

Colombia

Colombia has a Caribbean and Pacific coastline, the Amazon rainforest, developed cities, mountains, deserts, plains and unique ecosystems. Colombia’s colonial city of Cartagena is a big up and coming Caribbean tourist destination, along with the Caribbean islands of San Andres and Providencia.

Colombia has been voted one of the best destinations to visit in 2017 by Lonely Planet. This fact and a mix of others have allowed tourism in Colombia to increase 45% from 2015 to 2016. The countries peace process deal has further enhanced this increase.

Colombia was once a country too dangerous to venture outside of the main cities, but now the country has become a leading destination. Colombia’s two biggest cities Bogota and Medellin have become thriving metropolitan business hubs. Medellin has undergone dramatic rejuvenation since the days of Pablo Escobar. Medellin went from being the ‘murder capital of the world’ to winning an award as one of the world’s most innovative cities by The Wall Street Journal in 2013.

Adventures in Colombia

Colombia is becoming a great place due to it’s high volume of activities and landscapes. In Colombia visitors can do a variety of activity that range from stargazing in the desert, to relax on a Caribbean island. It is also possible to go diving in coral reefs, bungee jumping or white water rafting in the jungle.

You can also explore the Amazon rainforest or climb the mountains. You can visit the colonial landmarks, explore the mountains. Visit indigenous communities, experience a wide variety of adventurous activities and explore ancient ruins are things you shouldn’t miss while exploring the country.

Many people are afraid to travel in South America for the safety risks. Most of these countries are working hard to increase their safety for tourists. The majority have succeeded with an increase in safety brings many benefits. An increased number of airlines have chosen to fly and create routes to allow individuals to travel in South America.

Thanks to all the countries currencies and the drop in value of the pound, euro and dollar, traveling is pretty cheap. Food is fresh and cheap due to the fact the majority of produce grows within the countries. Travel over land can be cheap and with airline competition, fly can also be pretty cheap.

So next time you consider going travelling, consider taking a trip to a country in South America.

Travel off the beaten path to achieve rewards, many people are too afraid to see.
